What is your 3 sentence biography? / What is your personal elevator pitch? Both of my parents ran successful restaurants and B&B’s in Nova Scotia and I fell in love with hospitality at a young age. Prior to my arrival in the Berkshires, I worked in various Fairmont Hotels including properties in San Francisco, Vancouver, B.C., Jasper Alberta, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. before joining Canyon Ranch in 2016.
Tell us about a challenge you faced on your path, and what you learned from it. One challenge I faced was when I transitioned from the Food and Beverage world of hotels into the Rooms Division. Although at the same hotel and dealing with the same guests, I had grown up only knowing about restaurants and banquets. What I learned from this is to always ask questions, write everything down and never doubt yourself or your ability. If you are genuinely trying to exceed expectations each day and remain humble, people will see this and help you succeed. It is also ok to make a decision that terrifies you if it’s the right thing, but when you do this you must stand by it, don’t look back and learn from it!
What “secret to success” would you share with young women entering the (Berkshire) workforce? It is very important to have a mentor that you can rely on to ensure you are always continuing to learn and grow in your career. Also, a person to call when you need advice. We all have someone that we look up to in life, and I have had so many great mentors throughout my career, it is important to me that I provide that same mentorship to others. It has allowed me to watch so many great people grow in their careers and at the same time, I also continue to grow.
What Berkshire women in business inspire you and why? I am inspired by Margaret Keller with CATA because of her passion and energy. Margaret and the CATA members have brought us amazing workshops, dancing, poetry, writing, and so many exceptional programs to the Berkshires that are truly inspirational!
