Berkshire Economic Recovery Project Technical Assistance Program

The Berkshire Economic Recover Project (BERP) Technical Assistance Program is a cohort-based technical assistance series for small businesses and organizations located in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Each cohort indicated below is capped at 7 (seven) businesses per class, with that cohort going through a 2-hour initial workshop together, followed by required independent work, and then concluding with up to two hours of free one-on-one technical assistance provided by the cohort TA provider. This process is meant to provide each business the key structural guidance and individualized support to help them recover, rebound, and become more resilient in our current economic landscape.

Registering for any of these cohorts is a commitment to completing it. By registering, you are claiming a limited opportunity only offered to 7 businesses in each cohort. “Get Ready to Get Funded” with Robin Helfand

Robin Helfand is a Small Business Owner & Consultant.  She is an alum of Mckinsey & Co and Procter & Gamble. Robin holds an MBA (Cornell ’83) and has 20+ years experience developing strategies to successfully help client businesses receive funding approval– whether seeking first time loans, increasing existing funding, applying for grants, micro-loans, debt modification, inventory or equity financing. In addition to helping clients prepare their P&L, B/S, cash flow statements & PFS/collateral, Robin shares some proprietary ” hacks” to get your specific application moved to the top-of-the-pile…and likely to be approved! “STAFF UP: Key Strategies to Find, Engage, and Retain Employees” with Karen Carswell & Lucy Steinert

Two Sessions: October 13, 2021 | 8 – 10AM and November 10, 2021 | 4 – 6PM

Karen Carswell is a skilled leadership and innovation-oriented strategic thinker with a proven track record of thoughtful analysis, project management, training and ingenuity to streamline businesses and processes. She is certified to train Dr. Thomas Gordan’s Leader Effectiveness Training which has transformed Fortune 500 companies and start-ups to confront their communication challenges and create high-performing and cooperative teams. Karen earned her MBA from Isenberg School of Management, she also holds a MA in Sustainable Development from SIT Graduate Institute, and a BA from Union College in Modern Languages. She is a proficient Spanish speaker.

Lucy Steinert consults with various organizations in both mature and early-stage companies. She spent over 20 years consulting for Fortune 500 companies and governments while working for IBM and Price Waterhouse Coopers where she led large multi-functional teams implementing new technology as well as classic strategy work. While she was at IBM she was the Director of Innovation for EMEA. Her passion for innovation led her to early-stage investing and mentoring of early-stage companies. Previously, she worked for Fidelity Investments where she did equity and portfolio analysis. Lucy earned her MBA from Columbia University, she also holds a BA from University of California Santa Cruz in Economics and Politics. She returned to the United States after living in the UK for 20 years in 2014.

Francesca - Technical Assistance Program

“Essentials of Digital Marketing” with Francesca Olsen

Two Sessions: October 20, 2021 | 8 – 10AM (FULL*) and December 1, 2022 | 8 – 10AM (FULL*)

Francesca Olsen is a writer and consultant with more than a decade of experience in marketing and communications, from branding to digital strategy. She works with small business owners and creative professionals who want to sharpen their digital marketing strategy, build a following online, launch new projects, and more. She also advises and supports businesses, artists, nonprofits, and startups on social media, content marketing, digital advertising strategy, and general PR and communications. She regularly gives workshops on digital marketing for artists and small business owners, including as a trainer for MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists Program.

Carolyn - Technical Assistance Program

“Don’t Just Stand Up, Stand Out!” with Carolyn Blitz

Building Your Non-Profit Brand Identity

One Session: October 28, 8 – 10AM

Carolyn Blitz began her career as an executive with the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. Blitz subsequently worked with the National Basketball Association for 20 years, serving as Vice President of Community Relations and Vice President of Events. Blitz has held several leadership roles with Vermont non-profit organizations including: Chairman, Stratton Community Foundation; Founder and Chairman, Stratton Family Fund; Chairman, Carlos Otis Medical Clinic; and served as a Board Member of the Southern Vermont Arts Center, the Bennington Museum, and is a Founding Board Member of the Manchester Business Association. Blitz is a partner in Old Mill Road Media.
