Title: Managing Partner
What is your 3 sentence biography? / What is your personal elevator pitch? For well over ten years, I have had the honor of leading Cain Hibbard & Myers, one of the most respected law firms in Western Massachusetts. In addition to serving as its managing partner, I chair the firm’s health law and intellectual property, technology and Internet law groups. I counsel clients and litigate cases in all areas of business law. Much of my current practice is devoted to representing nonprofits, healthcare providers, and local and international businesses.
Tell us about a challenge you faced on your path, and what you learned from it. In 1990, I was a partner in a successful law firm in New York City, litigating big intellectual property law cases. As exciting as that practice was, I yearned to find a way to make the Berkshires my home. So I decided to take a big leap, leaving behind city life to hang out a shingle in tiny Alford, Massachusetts. Building a practice in the Berkshires was a challenge – not a lot of big intellectual property cases here – but over time it happened, thanks to business connections and friendships, and thanks to my partners here after I joined Cain Hibbard in 2000.
What “secret to success” would you share with young women entering the (Berkshire) workforce? Always try to be the best-prepared person in the room.
What Berkshire women in business inspire you and why? They are too numerous to list – indeed, one of the things that makes Berkshire County so special in that so many of its leaders are women. I am inspired by their success, their vision, and their courage.
