State officials said Friday that they plan to break ground on a new life sciences research facility in the Berkshires this summer, five years after the project was first announced.
The Berkshire Innovation Center has been in the works since 2013, when the city of Pittsfield received a grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, a quasi-state agency, to put together a business plan for a potential biotech research facility in Western Massachusetts.
