Meet the 1Berkshire Team
By Jonathan Butler
Welcome to the newest round of our behind-the-scenes Meet the Staff column. All that 1Berkshire accomplishes is made possible by our dedicated and hardworking staff members. From actively supporting the economic ecosystem of the Berkshires, to attracting new talent and growing the community, our mission to foster entrepreneurship and bolster tourism is realized every single day through the stewardship and devotion of these loyal individuals.
Enjoy getting to know our newest member to the 1Berkshire team: Lucy Hamann, Economic Development Associate.
Meet Lucy Hamann, Economic Development Associate
Lucy lives in Williamstown and spends her free time working out, exploring the outdoors, and broadening her cooking repertoire from grilled cheese and spaghetti. She doesn’t have to go far to find the Berkshires’ incredible wildlife; she’s spotted a bald eagle and a couple bobcat cubs right from her home desk.
Tell us a little about your role at 1Berkshire.
I am the 3rd member of the Economic Development team, helping to strengthen the connective tissue of the business community via business consults, entrepreneurial meetups, technical assistance workshops, and more! When I’m in the shop, you might find me managing the jobs thing which promotes position openings across Berkshire County.
What do you most enjoy about living, working, and playing in the Berkshires?
I love living in a close-knit, rural community with easy access to urban destinations like Boston and NYC. It seems there are endless opportunities to enjoy the arts and the outdoors right here, and I can still fill my occasional need for a city’s sensory overload on a quick weekend trip.
Tell us one fun fact about you – professional or personal.
One fun fact is about myself that I have family in remote Alaska. I have to say the Berkshires seems like a more logical, but similarly aesthetically pleasing home than the one my grandparents have picked.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
My favorite part of my job is getting to know and assist the Berkshires’ many friendly faces. Despite being new to the area, it seems I can’t help but meet lovely people from all walks of life. I am continually surprised to find connections to my hometown of Franklin, MA, and roots in upstate NY as a graduate of Hamilton College.
Is there anything you wish people knew about 1Berkshire that perhaps they are unaware of?
Our role as the Berkshire region’s economic development organization (REDO), often starts with the business community, but we aim to build up the whole region. In addition to working through the classic channels, we carry out “wraparound economics,” helping non-traditional participants engage in our economy. For example, our Youth Leadership Program introduces high school juniors to the Berkshires’ plethora of vibrant economic clusters, aiming to inspire leading-edge and rewarding careers.
