The Berkshires are taking center stage! Positive articles dedicated to the Berkshires have been cropping up everywhere lately from national magazines and newspapers to blogs and websites. The Food Network’s own Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten, hosted and shot her holiday episode in the Berkshires. In this episode, she kicked off her holiday’s with a great winter weekend in the region and then visited several local businesses to buy items for a Berkshire-inspired lunch back in East Hampton.
From economic development stories to weddings and travel tips, there has been plenty of praise heaped on our wonderful communities all over the region. Christie’s International Real Estate’s website in January focused on “The Many Benefits of Life in the Berkshires” and Forbes recently published an article about a proposed public benefits enterprise zone in Great Barrington that drew attention to the many great opportunities for entrepreneurs in the area.
TRAVELMAG highlighted the thriving creative economy in North Adams with its feature entitled “Art For Art’s Sake in North Adams.” The online retailer Minnetonka encouraged its shoppers to have an Everyday Adventure and Escape Brooklyn. Add to that list the fact that Town & Country Magazine named Wheatleigh as the most romantic dining experience in Massachusetts and the great piece that just ran in the Jewish Journal wrote a story on “The Berkshires: A Bucolic and Beautiful Wedding Destination.” Even a travel site aimed at men, called The Manual, highlighted the area as the perfect place for a long weekend getaway.
There are still so many more I could bring up, but there is one underlying point to all these articles: the Berkshires has something to offer everyone. However, favorable press isn’t the only good news we’ve received in the past few months. The ride-sourcing company Uber is looking to expand service in the region. Hotel on North in Pittsfield was named one of Architectural Digest’s favorite new American hotels in 2015. Burnette’s Farm in Adams received a $50,000 state grant to help it expand and develop for the future.
Whether it’s for a visit, a special event, or relocating to the area, I think we can all agree that we’re sending out a very good message to the world.
