We Must Do Better
At 1Berkshire, we have watched in dismay as our nation has continued to allow racism to persist and proliferate. The 1Berkshire staff and its Board Members are overwhelmingly white, which places us in no position to pretend to understand the realities and pressures faced by people of color, either locally or beyond the Berkshires. As an organization, we aspire to become more diverse, both in composition and approach, to be a more accurate reflection of our community, and to enhance and contribute to increased, equitable economic justice in the Berkshires. We are reminded this week of the profound urgency of that work, and the need for us to listen, learn, and act in support of our communities of color. Our nation must do better and our collective work must proceed rapidly until no person of color lives in fear of atrocities like those that took George Floyd’s life and have taken the lives of thousands of people of color. We all have a role to play to support an anti-racist culture, and we have significant work to do together to meet that responsibility.
We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all of those fighting for real, sustained, and equitable justice in our country.
