The Berkshire Eagle covers Pittsfield’s Honor for microgrid exploration

“PITTSFIELD — Crickets and other crawling critters creeped up the legs of dignitaries during a news conference Monday morning.

Their presence was welcome, Mayor Linda Tyer said with a smile, as it indicated natural plantings along the city’s solar field at Downing Industrial Park are doing their job. The 2.9-megawatt solar field, which launched in 2017, served as the backdrop for an event held by Environment Massachusetts.

The organization praised Pittsfield for its work on a potential downtown microgrid.

“A lot of the most innovative work on renewable energy is happening at the municipal level,” the organization’s statewide Director Ben Hellerstein said, noting he hopes state leaders ‘follow the example of communities like Pittsfield.'”

The Berkshire Eagle published Environment Massachusetts honors Pittsfield for microgrid exploration on July 29, 2019.
