BART is an extraordinary place in a beautiful location. It’s Berkshire Arts & Technology Charter Public School, a nationally recognized, award-winning, college-preparatory, public middle and high school located in Adams, Massachusetts. It’s the only charter public school in Berkshire County. It’s consistently ranked among the top schools in Massachusetts—just last year BART was recognized by US News & World Report as #16 among the top 100 Massachusetts high schools. And now it’s searching for its next Principal.
More than just a great school, BART is a nurturing learning community comprising diverse, engaged students and their families as well as teachers and staff members who are committed to preparing their students for college and a lifetime of learning. BART has curious traditions and operates on a foundation of core beliefs, namely: that restorative justice makes our community supportive of all individuals; that our community is strong because of its diversity, inclusion of all, and dedication to building cultural competency; that each of us has an important personal story; and that every child can succeed in school and in life. The School is surrounded by the Berkshires, drawing its nearly 400 students from roughly 20 communities, and is only minutes from institutions such as MASS MoCA, Williams College, MCLA, and Tanglewood. Located short drives from Albany, Hartford, Amherst, Boston, and the New York City areas, BART provides immediate access for our students and employees to all types of outdoor activities as well as world-class music, visual and performing arts, dining, and other cultural pleasures.
BART’s Principal is essential—leading the teachers and academic staff and, along with talented colleagues, overseeing the academic programs of BART’s middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12). The Principal works closely with BART’s Executive Director and other senior administrators to ensure programs are engaging and responsive and to make the School ever stronger.
BART’s new Principal will begin in Summer 2021. The individual will be an educational leader, will have experience as a middle and/or high school teacher, and will have the potential to cultivate and advance our dynamic, innovative, and compassionate learning community. They will be a tireless advocate for the development and growth of the whole child and will celebrate the diversity of our community and be dedicated to making BART inclusive, equitable, and just for all our members. And they will join colleagues in helping ensure BART’s rich learning and social environment is focused on high standards, terrific teaching, and the notion that all children can learn and grow in every setting and creative endeavor.
