Editor and Production Manager, The Clark Art Institute

Join the Clark Art Institute’s communications team and play a central role in promoting its outstanding collection, special exhibitions, and year-round programs of events and activities.

The Editor and Production Manager provides editorial and production supervision on all Clark ephemera; has central responsibility for the development and publication of its quarterly calendar of events; leads content development for the Clark’s website; and manages ongoing traffic for all production projects. The role works directly with Communications Department personnel and others to promote and raise awareness of the Clark on regional, national, and international levels utilizing public relations, marketing, social networking, and advertising to achieve goals.

Essential Functions

  • Editor of quarterly calendar of events with primary responsibility for writing, editing, and managing text and images for print calendar. Work in close collaboration with all departments to develop, edit, fact-check, and proofread entire publication to ensure accuracy and quality. Create engaging promotional content to generate audience interest. Manage overall production of calendar, working closely with graphic design department, to ensure brand consistency and to meet established production schedules. Lead public programs calendar meetings to coordinate overall content and scheduling.
  • Manage production coordination of all Clark print materials; create and maintain production log; proofread and copy edit all materials according to Clark and Chicago style and review content to ensure accuracy, Clark brand consistency, and compelling copy;  provide ongoing support to ensure graphic design team is able to work productively. Work closely with other members of the department to manage schedules, workloads, and budgets. Work with all departments to coordinate delivery of all projects according to competing schedule demands.
  • Work in collaboration with Communications Department team to conceptualize, plan, and execute marketing programs in support of all exhibitions and Clark events.
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases for Clark events and activities as assigned; create and maintain press release calendar to ensure strong advance promotional efforts for the Clark’s busy public programs schedule.
  • Manage content collection, coordination, and editing to create exhibition microsites on website.
  • Using complex software programs, create and maintain regular updates to Clark website to update content, ensure overall site consistency and accuracy, and promote upcoming events and activities, etc. Provide assistance to all departments related to Kentico and Outbound programs and provide regular training and troubleshooting for Clark staff.
  • Oversee and edit all modifications to website content from various departments.
  • Write, edit, and format regular e-blasts to members/friends of the Clark. Working in collaboration with marketing team, create overall schedule for e-blasts to ensure effective promotion of all events. Manage weekly e-blast schedules, remaining sensitive to fluctuations in institutional needs and working in close collaboration with various departments to drive attendance and ticket sales.
  • Must be experienced at working with Microsoft and Adobe publishing software programs, including Word, Excel, and Photoshop. Must be able to learn and manage content management and operating systems, including but not limited to Kentico, Outbound, Raiser’s Edge, and Counterpoint programs.
  • Handle media relations for targeted assignments – primarily for local/regional press — providing prompt responses to press inquiries, fulfilling requests for images, photography, and assisting with press visits.
  • Provide assistance on an as-needed basis for Digital Content Editor in utilizing various social networking platforms to promote Clark exhibitions, events, activities, etc.
  • Maintain regional press list and assist Marketing and Communications Manager on other lists on an as-needed basis.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills; must be a strong and confident proofreader and copy editor; must be able to work efficiently under ongoing deadline pressure to accomplish delivery of multiple projects.
  • Report to the Director of Communications working closely with other Communications and Institute staff.
