Overview

The Lee Public Schools seeks an Accounting/Payroll Specialist to join the district’s Business Office. This role will work under the guidance of an assigned Business Administrator (mentor) and the Superintendent of Schools, in delivering business and operational functions. This position will work cooperatively with the Superintendent’s Office, Maintenance and Facilities Department, Food Services, Special Education, School Principals, Purchasing, Athletics, the Transportation Department, and a variety of external stakeholders. It is expected the individual in this position will participate in ongoing training and education, working towards a School Business Administrator credential.

Job Responsibilities

The Accounting/Payroll Specialist responsibilities include:

  • Payroll (bi-weekly), including retirement, deductions, longevity, and stipends
  • Accounting and budget oversight
  • Compliance with and support for local, state, and federal reporting
  • Grants oversight
  • Budget controls, including supervision of financial and credit tracking
  • Revolving accounts
  • Supervision of fund collection, safekeeping, and distribution
  • Projections of revenue and expenditures
  • Support for warrant development
  • Track employee leave, including FMLA
  • Support procurement of services and contracts
  • Maintain availability in service to Lee Schools’ employees
  • Work with external stakeholders including the Town of Lee, the Department of Education, contractors and vendors, and grant-awarding organizations
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related finance and/or accounting field
  • Recommended four years’ experience in finance and/or accounting
  • Knowledge of accounting software systems
  • Ability to problem solve and learn/apply new skills and information
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of school and community stakeholders
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills including speaking and writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of financial/accounting software and systems
