Making Our Interns Feel at Home

Did you know that in the summer months in the Berkshires hundreds of interns come to our area to work and learn? These interns bring with them hope for the future of our county’s workforce and better insight into what we can do to attract and retain millennials. This is our chance to educate the next generation about all the Berkshires has to offer to people of all ages. So as local business leaders, it would behoove you to take some time to get to know the interns at your workplace and beyond and show them first hand how wonderful the Berkshires can be.

If your business has interns, summer help, or simply some new hires, here are a few resources for them to discover what is going on in the area this summer. First, be sure they tap into all the Berkshire Young Professionals (BYP) programming. This group works to address the challenges of forming connections for the next generation via a variety of events. This summer, the BYP will be hosting a number of intern-friendly events including socials, trivia nights, and even a scavenger hunt.

Another great resource is the 1Berkshire Intern Event Calendar, which offers a selection of events from throughout the county covering topics such as art, theater, live music, social gatherings, and more. This calendar is just a small portion of the many great events happening in the Berkshires this summer. For a more comprehensive list, please visit our events calendar on berkshires.org.

Looking for a way to get them to know even more about the Berkshires? Then be sure to pass along a link to the Berkshires Blog. Here they will be able to find out insider tips on everything from the food and arts scene to the hiking and biking fun that can be found all over the Berkshires. Also, let them know about deals that are available to them, from discounted tickets to shows to free passes and more.

So, as residents and business leaders, it is my sincere hope that we can all help showcase the beauty and charm of this great region and show the many bright, young interns that the Berkshires is a great place to work, live and play.
